Aegis is built and run by Reece Y — a project controls practitioner, not a software company that hired one.

Every guide and comparison on this site is written by the same person who builds the software. That is deliberate: the analysis in Aegis and the writing about it come from the same place, and where the writing draws on something I have actually watched happen, it says so and it is signed.

Why the free DCMA tool exists

The DCMA 14-Point Schedule Assessment came out of the United States Defense Contract Management Agency — schedule assurance built for defence acquisition, which then spread into infrastructure because it is quantitative and hard to argue with.

That is the half of my background the tool comes from. Defence project controls is where the rigour is set — critical design reviews, acceptance events, schedule risk analysis against a network that has to survive scrutiny — and civil work is where the same discipline meets a programme that gets submitted monthly and argued over.

It is also why the free checker reports three of the fourteen checks as not assessed when your export lacks the data, rather than passing them by default. A schedule assessment that flatters a thin file is worse than none, because someone will rely on it.

What Aegis is

Project controls software that reads what your existing tools already export — a Primavera P6 .xer, a Microsoft Project XML, Excel or CSV — and produces earned value against real cost, float and critical path movement, a quantified risk position against contingency, a probabilistic forecast, and a written monthly assessment where every rating traces back to the number behind it.

It exists because the mechanical half of the job eats the month. A scheduler I work with spends four days building the earned value report and another on the review pack — five days, a quarter of the month, transcribing numbers P6 already holds into Excel. None of that is judgement, and all of it is automatable.

What it does not claim

Stated here rather than discovered later, because the claims a vendor declines to make tell you more than the ones it makes.

• It does not replace P6, Microsoft Project or Procore. It reads their exports. Your planners keep working exactly as they do now, and nothing is written back.
• It does not run the DCMA assessment. That is the free browser tool, and it is a separate thing.
• The AI does not compute your numbers. Critical path, earned value and the Monte Carlo simulation come from an engine you can audit. The model reads those numbers and writes the assessment — it cannot invent a figure, and it cannot be talked into calling a slipping job green.
• It does not replace a scheduler. It takes the arithmetic and the assembly. It does not challenge an optimistic duration, sit in a room with your client, or decide whether a delay is worth claiming.
